Each meeting has a well-structured agenda with many smaller and large roles, all of which provide an opportunity to practice speaking in front of the group, but also to ensure that the evening is running smooth and professional. Toastmaster meetings are often very funny, but at the same time they are always very well organized!
Up to 4 members give a prepared speech with a duration of 5 to 7 minutes. The topic of the speech can be chosen freely - more important than the content is to practice certain skills, which are described in detail in the training materials.
After that, each speaker receives a personal feedback in the form of an "evaluation speech". It will be emphasized, what was already working well, and in addition, specific tips will be given - what you could improve at the next speech. And the evaluator also trains a valuable skill: active listening and constructive feedback.
In addition, each speaker receives brief written feedback from the other members.
The funny end of the evening are the table topic speeches. A previously determined moderator will come up with questions that should be answered spontaneously in the form of a short speech. In our club, we all sit around a table and we combine these spontaneous speeches with the opportunity to consume food and drinks in a convivial round. (The restaurant we meet at has a great deal for every taste!)
